Las Fuentes
5300 Doniphan Dr.El Paso, TX
(915) 581-9675
This location of Las Fuentes is one of the numerous Mexican restaurants in El Paso that serves good food, but does
not have a really distinguishing dish or feature. Instead, it is more like a neighborhood restaurant that serves
"comfort food." Everything here is pretty solid. I especially like the fact that they use vegetable oil for cooking,
making even the refried beans pretty good.
The Mexican white cheese used in the Red Enchiladas and other dishes gives added flavor. The
down side to the enchiladas, though, is that there is not much chile sauce covering the dish and it is not very spicy.
The Salsa, although good, is not exceptional.
Chicken Tacos are excellent, but not as good as at some other restaurants.
The biggest disappointment is probably the Chile Relleno-- it is very greasy and has too
many seeds left inside, although it is still better than average.
There is another Las Fuentes up the road a few miles in Canutillo that I think is better, and it also stays
open later in the evening. Although I like the restaurant at Doniphan and Thorn, it does not seem to quite
match the cooking skills and the relaxed "homey" feeling of the Canutillo location.
