Mix Pacific Rim Cuisine
1001 University Ave.Las Cruces, NM
(575) 532-2042
With the closing of Tatsu Japanese Restaurant, some of the former family members from Tatsu
(as I understand it) set out to fill the void for Asian food in Las Cruces by opening Mix, serving
"Pacific Rim" cuisine. Mix describes itself as a "fine dining" restaurant, and although the menu
centers around Japanese cooked items, it also prepares dishes from other Asian countries
as well as sushi (Mon. night is sushi night with special prices).
I ordered one of the "other" Asian dishes, Ginger Tofu, because it was the only one
I could find that looked good and was vegetarian. I thought this dish had very good quality,
freshness, and taste, but the way the different tastes were mixed together did not come out
very well. I did not recognize it as a Thai dish, which is what I think it is supposed to be, and
it was rather expensive for lunch, just barely falling within the $$ price category.
Perhaps Mix is trying too hard to "mix" different Asian food. It does not pull it off nearly
as well as some of the fusion restaurants on the west coast such as Wild Ginger in Seattle.
I think one might do better to stick to the Japanese food here.
