This web site is not trying to cover all the latest restaurant news, since I think there are many others
who can do a far better job at it. However, I did find out about a couple of interesting news items I
would like to pass along. One is the article published by Dave Cathey of the
Oklahoman concerning the planned
OK Chefs Relief Pop-Up Restaurant
this weekend at the Myriad Gardens in downtown Oklahoma City. It will take place Sunday May 26
and Monday May 27, and will serve food all day in return for donations for tornado relief. Featured
chefs include Danny Bowien, from Oklahoma City, who operates the Mission Chinese Food
restaurants in San Francisco and New York. The Oklahoman articles includes all the details about
the planned event. Some readers may have seen Chef Bowein Thursday night on Late Night
with Jimmy Fallon, providing national publicity for the event.
Also I talked to Nina, the manager of Castle Falls on MacArthur just south of N.W. 10th in Oklahoma City, and I found out about a special dinner planned for Thursday, May 30 at the restaurant which will feature food and wine from Spain based on authentic recipes from the country. It is a little pricey, at $85 per person, but of course the regular restaurant menu is not nearly as expensive. Castle Falls in itself is somewhat of a "special event," since hours are limited to Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, and by reservation only. I thought the special meal next Thursday was of interest because there are few opportunities to try Spanish cuisine in Oklahoma City (and in fact this is even true in El Paso, where there is much more of a Spanish culture). I understand that Nina plans to travel to Germany this summer, and to offer a special German meal with paired drinks sometime after her return.
