B-Won Korean Restaurant
4517 S. Sunnylane Rd.Oklahoma City, OK   Del City

Korean food has become somewhat of an acquired taste for me, but I think this is mainly
because for years I did not experience the full richness of what the cuisine is all about. B-Won's
varied menu and quality food, though, are certainly a good place for anyone to start exploring.
One common denominator at all Korean restaurants is Kimchee, and the one here is
one of the best I have tasted. It has a fermented flavor that tastes as if it comes from a family's traditional
way of preparing it-- there is no hint of ingredients that come from jars or are shipped in, as I sometimes
find (but any good Korean restaurant will do it the way B-Won does).
Kimchee is served as a side dish with all dinners, but other side dishes are impressive as well.
The Fish Cake was my favorite-- it is probably the only one I've had that is actually enjoyable
rather than just making you think you are eating it because it is "healthy." This is also the only
restaurant at which I've had seaweed that I actually enjoyed.
For a main course I tried Kimchi Chee Kae, which seemed to be the recommendation of all
the people working there. It is a thick soup made with kimchee, tofu, and just enough meat (beef or
pork) to offset the other flavors, but I would not really call it a meat dish. This is supposed to be one
of the spiciest dishes on the menu, but I found the chile to be comparable to medium-hot enchiladas
or rellenos that are served in New Mexico. I thought it had just the right spiciness to be flavorful, and
I enjoyed it probably more than any other Korean dish I have ever eaten. However, if you are used
to really spicy Korean food, I think you will have to tell them to make it extra hot.
The Korean hot tea was very enjoyable, the restaurant was comfortable, and the service was
good. I did not have any problem whatsoever with anything about this restaurant, except for the fact
that I am still trying to learn about the different Korean dishes.
B-Won actually had several items on the menu that looked good, including some vegetarian
items, and with this place's food quality and reasonable prices, it would definitely be worthwhile
trying some of them.
