Bombay House
463 N. University Ave.Provo, UT
(801) 373-6677
Bombay House serves the type of Indian food I like-- flavorful and spicy. Judging from the way the waiters
take the food orders, it seems that they are prepared to reassure the customers who do not like spicy food
that it can be prepared that way. If you want it spicy, though, it seems to me to be served northern Indian
style-- medium spicy compared to the food that would be served in south India.
My order of Vegetable Masala was spicy enough to be enjoyable, and the flavor was one of the
best I have ever found for this dish. It had a good vegetable selection, and was not full of potatoes, which
some restaurants use as "filler" to save on the cost of buying more green vegetables.
The Chicken Tikka Masala supposedly contained the same sauce as the vegetable version, but
this was not as spicy even though it was ordered with the same spice level as the other dish. I also did
not think it was as flavorful as the vegetable dish. Occasionally I like meat versions of Indian food but
this was not really one of those times.
The Chicken Briyani was a large serving of seasoned rice with chunks of chicken mixed in.
There is a version of this dish at a Bangladesh style restaurant in Oklahoma City that I like better,
although the rice was probably better here.
Everything I tried at Bombay House was good, and unless you are craving some super-spicy south Indian
style food (which I do not think you will find in Utah), I would definitely recommend giving Bombay House a try.
Bombay House is not terribly expensive, and the main drawback is possibly having to wait for a table, particularly
on weekends. I also do not understand why the two masala dishes that were ordered with the same spice level
came out differently. I cannot tell a whole lot about the restaurant from one visit but I was pleasantly surprised.
