Although the Spud location on Alki Beach seems like the kind of place that is bigger on atmosphere than food, it seems to have some of the better fish and chips in the Seattle area. For that matter, I have had quite a few versions in Oregon and California that did not match the quality served here.

Although I had more of a snack here than a meal, it was enough to convince me that the Cod Fish and Chips were good quality-- especially in the fish. The cod maintained a uniform white color, was fresh and hot, and the batter was just about as good. I am pretty sure the batter negates any health benefit of eating the fish, but it was very enjoyable. The malt vinegar, an integral part of any fish and chip experience, was as good as I was expecting.

I have seen other comments on the Internet that Spud's is overpriced, and I agree. I think it is worth it, though, for the occasions that a picnic meal on the beach or a delicious snack would be just the thing.

Halibut, shrimp, and other varieties of seafood are available as well.

Although the restaurant is owned by Ivar's, it has apparently kept the original recipes, and I think is better than the fish and chips I have had at Ivar's.
