Wild Ginger Asian Restaurant & Satay Bar
1401 3rd Ave.Seattle, WA
(206) 623-4450
It is not really correct to think of Wild Ginger as a Thai restaurant. It has been made totally "safe" for
the least adventurous taste, with little resemblance to the authentic Thai dishes that use copious
amounts of chile, fish sauce, curry, etc.
That being said, Wild Ginger has created its own taste sensations, with a liberal use of
ginger and other spices. On my first visit I thought the Ginger Salmon seemed like a good bet,
serving a local seafood specialty (king salmon) in a way that it is not normally prepared. This
turned out to be a memorable meal-- one of the best I've ever had.
Service is very good, and Wild Ginger has everything needed to be an upscale restaurant
including low lighting and a live band (which was excellent, by the way).
The menu consists of a variety of Chinese, Thai, Indonesian, and other styles of cooking,
although I would guess that all of them are Americanized. Go to Wild Ginger for an upscale meal in
a nice atmosphere (a good "date" restaurant), or just to enjoy something different. Don't go expecting
hard-core, authentic Thai food.
I thought Wild Ginger was good for what it does, and the excellent chefs are to be commended.
